Need porcupine removal? Look no further, give us a call.

Porcupines will not take over your home in droves, but just one of these animals is often enough to make homeowners seek ways to remove it from their property. Content to live in the woods, droughts and starvation will occasionally drive a porcupine toward human dwellings. A Wildlife Team member will investigate your property for signs of porcupines, such as droppings and damage to wooden structures and trees. Once it is determined that it is a porcupine issue, the Wildlife pro will attempt to humanely trap and remove the animal from the area.

The Damage :
Porcupines are herbivores and will eat tree bark, herbaceous plants, twigs, and leaves to get nitrogen from them. Nitrogen is essential to their health. This is why they’ll also chew on man-made wooden structures and wooden tool handles in yards. This behavior can kill the affected tree.

In addition to chewing on trees and wooden structures, porcupines may also cause damage when seeking salt. Because their summer diets are rich in potassium, the pests need sodium for a counterbalance. To consume the salt residue left by commercial de-icing products, porcupines may gnaw on houses, automobiles, and plywood, causing damage.

The Health Risks
Rabies:
Porcupines are rodents and can carry the rabies virus. As with any wild animal, you should get medical attention if you come into physical contact with one. Rabies is fatal if not treated with the vaccine in a timely manner.

Quill Exposure:
Porcupines can be a danger to dogs who don’t realize they shouldn’t tangle with one. Their quills detach easily when an animal attempts to bite or jump on a porcupine. The quills become embedded in the animal and must all be removed or else they will work their way in and possibly do internal damage.
